マダガスカル島の西部が原産です。高さは１メートルほどになり、細い茎には托葉が変化した棘の間に、細かい剛毛状の棘毛が生えます。葉は線状披針形です。茎の先端にくちばし状の花序をだし、鮮やかな赤色の花を咲かせます。園芸上は「そうかきりん（痩花麒麟）」と呼ばれます。

トウダイグサ科トウダイグサ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Euphorbia pedilanthoides。英名はありません。

The Euphorbia pedilanthoides belongs to Euphorbiaceae (the Spurge family). It is an evergreen perennial that is native to western Madagascar. This plant can reach about 1 m in height, with slender stems covered with fine bristly prickles between stipular spines. Leaves are linear-lanceolate. Bright red flowers are seen in the beak-like inflorescences on the terminal stems.
