南アフリカの東ケープ州からクワズールーナタールの南部に分布しています。乾燥した亜熱帯および沿岸地域に生え、高さは１０メートル以上になります。幹は丸いか、やや４〜５角形で、樹皮は灰色です。地面近くから２〜５個の幹のような枝に分かれ、その上に小さな樹冠があることが多いです。小枝は４角形で深い緑色、はっきりした棘があります。７月から９月ごろ、杯状花序に花冠や萼のない黄緑色の花を咲かせます。損傷した部分からでる乳汁は、有毒です。

トウダイグサ科トウダイグサ属の常緑小高木で、学名は Euphorbia tetragona。英名は Honey euphorbia。

The Honey euphorbia (Euphorbia tetragona) belongs to Euphorbiaceae (the Spurge family). It is a semi-tall evergreen shrub that is distributed from the Eastern Cape to southern KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. It grows in dry subtropical and coastal areas and can reach a height of 10 m or more. The trunk is round or slightly 4- to 5-angled, and the bark is gray. It divides near the ground into two to five trunk-like branches, often with a small canopy above them. Twigs are 4-angled, deep green with distinct spines. Yellow-green flowers without corolla and sepals bloom in cyathiums from July to September. The milky sap from the damaged area is toxic.
