インドやスリランカが原産です。ラクテア種はサボテンに似た多肉植物で、茎には３〜４稜があり、高さは２．１メートルほどになります。本種は緑色の茎を作るのに必要な葉緑素を含む組織を持たない、ほとんど白色の形態をもつ園芸品種です。茎の縁は、ジグザグ模様のようにはっきりと起伏し、葉縁に沿った突起には１対の灰色がかった短い棘があります。

トウダイグサ科トウダイグサ属の常緑小低木で、学名は Euphorbia lactea cv. White Ghost。英名は Mottled spurge 'White Ghost'。

The Mottled spurge 'White Ghost' (Euphorbia lactea cv. White Ghost) belongs to Euphorbiaceae (the Spurge family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to India and Sri Lanka. The Euphorbia lactea is a cactus-like succulent plant with a stem with three or four ribs and a height of up to 2.1 m. This species is a horticultural species with an almost white morphology that lacks the chlorophyll-containing tissue needed to produce green stems. The stem margins are distinctly undulating in a zigzag pattern, with 1 pairs of short grayish spines on the projections along the leaf margins.
