The Baja spurge (Euphorbia xanti) belongs to Euphorbiaceae (the Spurge family). It is an evergreen shrub that is distributed in Baja California, Sonora, and Sinaloa, Mexico. It grows on rocks, cliffs, and sand dunes, and grows 1.2 to 1.8 m tall. It is well branched and spreading. The leaves are small, ovate-lanceolate, and often fall off in summer when the temperature rises or the soil dries out. From winter to late spring, it produces cyathiums at the ends of its branches, which produce small, fragrant pink or white flowers. The specific epithet is named after the Hungarian zoologist Janos Xantus (1825-1894), who collected in California and Baja California peninsula.
