The Brazilian fuchsia (Justicia floribunda) belongs to Acanthaceae (the Acanthus family). It is an evergreen shrub that is distributed in the eastern part of Brazil. It grows in subtropical forests and is 30-60 cm tall. The leaves are small, green, ovate, petiolate, and arranged in pairs. One leaf is smaller than the other and has wooly hairs. Yellow or scarlet tubular flowers, about 2 cm long, are produced in small inflorescences from late fall to early spring. This plant has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
