The Camellia (Camellia japonica) belongs to Theaceae (the Tea family). It is a tall evergreen tree that is distributed from Honshu to Shikoku, Kyushu of Japan, Taiwan, China and East Asia. This tree grows in the coastal areas and can reach 10-15 m in height. Red to pink flowers come in November to April. It isdefined by the unspreading petals. The seeds are used for the raw materials of camellia oil. Differentiated from this species is the "Yuki-tsubaki", which grows in the heavy snowfall areas of the Tohoku and Hokuriku regions. It is called "日本山茶" in Taiwanese Chinese and "山茶" (shan cha) in Chinese.
