「えどひがん」の栽培品種です。江戸時代の初めから栽培され、「いとざくらやえ（糸桜八重）」と呼ばれました。枝は枝垂れ、ふつう高さは５メートルほどになります。４月ごろ、葉の展開前に紅色の花を咲かせます。萼筒は濃紅色で、中央部がやや括れた鐘形です。

バラ科サクラ属の落葉中高木で、学名は Prunus spachiana cv. Pleno-rosea。英名はありません。

"Yae-beni-shidare" (Prunus spachiana cv. Pleno-rosea) belongs to the Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a semi-tall deciduous tree that is a cultivar of "Edo-higan" (Prunus pendula f. ascendens). It has been cultivated from early Edo Era (about 350 years ago), and it was called "Ito-zakura-yae". The branches are weeping, and this tree can reach about 5 m in height. The rose pink flowers bloom in April before foliation. The calyx tubes are dark rose pink, bell-shaped and constricted slightly in the middle.
