中国が原産です。わが国へは江戸時代には渡来したといわれています。「こでまり（小手鞠））」の変種です。４月から５月ごろ、球形花序に八重の純白色の小花をいっぱいに咲かせます。

バラ科シモツケ属の落葉低木で、学名は Spiraea cantoniensis var. plena。英名は Double Reeves' spirea、Double bridal wreath。

The Double Reeves' spirea (Spiraea cantoniensis var. plena) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a small deciduous tree that is native to China. It is said that they came to Japan during the Edo period (1603-1868). It is a variant of "Reeves' spirea". From April to May, the spherical inflorescences are full of double pure white florets.
