キク科ヤマハハコ属の多年草で、学名は Anaphalis margaritacea var. angustior (syn. Anaphalis margaritacea var. margaritacea)。英名は Pearly everlasting。
The Pearly everlasting (Anaphalis margaritacea var. angustior) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed northward from Chubu district of Honshu to Hokkaido of Japan, as well as China, the Himalaya and North America. This herb grows in montane to sub-alpine sunny aridish screes and can reach 30-60 cm in height. The stem is erect and the linear leaves are alternate. The abaxial sides of leaves are covered with white wooly hairs densely. The white flower heads come in July through September. The bracts are white and petal-like. The true flowers are pale yellow tubular flowers at the center of heads. In Chinese, it is called "珠光香青" (zhu guang xiang qing).
