わが国の各地をはじめ、朝鮮半島に分布しています。山野の日当たりのよい草地や林縁に生え、高さは４０〜１００センチになります。茎には４稜があり、広卵形の葉は対生して縁に粗い鋸歯があります。葉柄に翼があるのが特徴です。９月から１０月ごろ、穂状花序に青紫色の小さな唇弁花をいっぱい咲かせます。花冠の上唇は４裂して立ち上がり、線状の斑点があります。名前は「はっか」に似て山に生えることからですが、別属で香りもほとんどありません。

シソ科ヤマハッカ属の多年草で、学名は Rabdosia inflexa。英名はありません。

"Yama-hakka" (Rabdosia inflexa) belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Japan and the Korean Peninsula. This herb grows in sunny grasslands and forest edges, and can reach 40-100 cm in height. The stems are quadrangular and the broad ovate leaves are opposite with coarsely-toothed margins. It is defined by the winged petioles. Bluish-purple small labiate flowers bloom on the spikes from September to October. The upper lip is four-lobate and erect with linear mottles. The leaves have few scent.
