やくしまいわきんばい (屋久島岩金梅)

わが国の九州、屋久島が原産です。ふつうの「いわきんばい（岩金梅））」は、高さが１０〜２０センチですが、これは４〜５センチほどしかありません。根生葉は厚く、光沢があり蝋質です。花茎を伸ばして、鮮やかな黄色の花をつぎつぎに咲かせます。品種としては、確定されていないようです。また、佐藤謙さんによれぱ、わが国の各地に生える「いわきんぱい」と同種にもかかわらず、その分布の南限にあたる世界遺産の屋久島を冠することで、園芸的価値を高めて販売されているとのこと。 |

"Yakushima-iwakinbai" (Potentilla sp.) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Yakushima, Kyushu in Japan. The usual "Iwaki-kinbai" is 10 to 20 cm high, but this is only about 4 to 5 cm. The basal leaves are thick, shiny and waxy.
