やこうか (夜香花)

西インド諸島が原産です。夏から秋まで、周期的に枝先に円錐花序をだし、淡緑色の小さい花を咲かせます。この花は夜になると開き、つよい香りを放ちます。このことから別名で「やこうぼく（夜香木）」、中国では「夜香樹（ye xiang shu）」と呼ばれます。花後、球形の白い果実をつけます。 |

ナス科キチョウジ属の常緑低木で、学名は Cestrum nocturnum。英名は Night jasmine、Lady of the night。 |

The Night jasmine (Cestrum nocturnum) belongs to Solanaceae (the Nightshade family). It is a small evergreen tree that is native to the West Indies. From summer to fall, panicles are borne on the tips of the branches periodically, and small pale green flowers come in bloom. This flower opens at night and gives off a strong scent. For this reason, it is also known as "Yakoboku", and in China it is called "夜香樹" (ye xiang shu). After flowering, it bears spherical white fruits. |
