やくしまあじさい (屋久島紫陽花) [Index] [Back] わが国の九州、屋久島および沖縄に分布しています。渓流沿いの林内に生え、高さは１メートルほどになります。幹はよく分枝し、若枝は赤褐色です。葉は長楕円形から長楕円状披針形で対生し、先端は尾状に尖り、上半分の縁に粗く鋭い鋸歯があります。５月から６月ごろ、枝先の集散花序に花を咲かせます。花は淡黄色で多くの両性花と、黄白色で２〜４個の装飾花からなります。花弁状の萼片は４〜５個で、縁に不揃いな鋸歯があります。別名で「やくしまこんてりぎ（屋久島紺照木）」とも呼ばれます。  アジサイ科アジサイ属の落葉低木で、学名は Hydrangea grosseserrata。英名はありません。  "Yakushima-ajisai" (Hydrangea grosseserrata) belongs to Hydrangeaceae (the Hydrangea family). It is a small deciduous tree that is distributed to Yakushima Island and the Ryukyu Islands in Japan. This tree grows in forests along streams, and can reach about 1 m in height. The trunk is much branced and the young branches are reddish brown. The leaves are oblong to oblong-lanceolate, opposite, with caudate apexes and coarsely acute serrated on the upper part of edges. The flowers bloom in terminal cymes from May to June. The flowers consists of pale yellow, many amphoteric flowers and yellowish white 2 to 4 decorative flowers.
