わが国の屋久島にだけ分布しています。関東地方以西の本州、四国、九州に分布する「いよふうろ（伊予風露）」の変種で、標高１８００メートル付近の岩場に生え、高さ１５〜３０センチほどになります。葉は掌状に中裂し、毛が生えています。７月から９月ごろ、直径２センチほどの白い花を咲かせます。花弁には赤紫色の筋模様が入ります。

フウロソウ科フウロソウ属の多年草で、学名は Geranium shikokianum var. yoshiianum。英名はありません。

"Yakushima-fuuro" (Geranium shikokianum var. yoshiianum) belongs to Geraniaceae (the Geranium family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed only on Yakushima Island in Japan. It is a variant of "Iyo-fuuro" distributed in Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu west of the Kanto region. It grows in rocky areas near 1800 m above sea level and is about 15 to 30 cm high. The leaves are split into lobes palmately and have hair. From July to September, white flowers with a diameter of about 2 cm bloom. The petals have reddish purple streak patterns.
