わが国の各地に分布しています。湿った草地などに生え、高さは２０〜８０センチになります。全体にひ弱で、茎は斜上します。萼片はふつう緑色で、開出毛が多く生えています。８月から９月ごろ、数段の輪状花序に小さな淡紫色を帯びた白い花を咲かせます。「いぬとうばな（犬塔花」に似ています。

シソ科トウバナ属の多年草で、学名は Clinopodium chinense ssp. grandiflorum var. shibetchense。英名はありません。

"Yama-kuruma-bana" (Clinopodium chinense ssp. grandiflorum var. shibetchense) belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed all over Japan. It grows on damp grasslands and can reach 20-80 cm in height. It is weak overall and the stems rise diagonally. The calyx is usually green and has a lot of open hair. From August to September, small pale purple white flowers come in several inflorescences. It is similar to "Inu-toubana" (Clinopodium micranthum).
