わが国の各地をはじめ、朝鮮半島や中国に分布しています。つる性で全体に無毛です。荒れ地や林縁などに生え、高さは５０〜１２０センチになります。葉は卵状披針形で互生し、先端は尖ります。７月から９月ごろ、集散花序をだし、淡紫色の花を咲かせます。花冠は５裂に分裂し、裂片は反り返ります。果実は液果で、９月から１１月ごろ真っ赤に熟します。

ナス科ナス属の多年草で、学名は Solanum japonense。英名はありません。

"Yama-horoshi" (Solanum japonense) belongs to Solanaceae (the Nightshade family). It is a perennnial herb that is native to Japan, the Korean Peninsula nad China. This plant is vine and glabrescent. It grows in wastelands or forest edges and it can reach 50-120 mc in height. The leaves are ovate-lanceolate, opposite with acute tips. The cymes are borne at the terminal branches and bloom pale purple flowers from July to September. The corolla is divided into five partite lobes and reflexed. The fruits are berries and ripen red from September to November.
