ブラジルが原産です。茎の直径は６０センチ、高さは１８メートル以上になります。４〜６稜があり、黄色から黄褐色の棘が生えます。茎の横から長さ３０センチ以上もある花を夜に咲かせますが、花弁の外側は緑色で内側が白色です。果実は液果で、長さが１２センチほどあり、朱色から鮮赤色に熟して食用になります。

サボテン科ケレウス属の柱サボテンで、学名は Cereus jamacaru。英名は Mandacaru。

The Mandacaru (Cereus jamacaru) belongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is a perennial cactus that is native to Brazil. Stems are about 60 cm in diameter and can reach up to 18 m in height. They have 4-6 ribs, with yellow to yellowish-brown spines. Flowers come at night, and are up to 30 cm long with green outside and white inside. Fruits are edible berries and ripen scarlet to bright red.
