わが国の本州から四国・九州それに朝鮮半島や中国東北部に分布しています。山地の林内に生え、高さは５０〜１００センチになります。茎は丸くて中空で、上部で分枝します。葉は２〜３回３出羽状複葉で、卵形の小葉の縁には粗い鋸歯があります。７月から１０月ごろ、枝先に複散形花序をだし、小さな白色の花を咲かせます。花弁は５個で内側に曲がり、切れ込みがあるように見えます。

セリ科ヤマゼリ属の多年草で、学名は Ostericum sieboldii。英名はありません。

"Yama-zeri" (Ostericum sieboldii) belongs to Apiaceae (the Carrot family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu of Japan, as well as the Korean Peninsula and northeastern China. This herb grows in montane woodlands and can reach 50-100 cm in height. The stem is round, midair and much branched at the upper part. The leaves are biternate to triternate compound with ovate leaflets. The leaflets have coarse toothed edges. The compound umbels are borne on the terminal branches and the small white flowers bloom from July to October. The petals are recurving inside.
