カエデ科カエデ属の落葉高木で、学名は Acer amoenum var. matsumurae。英名は Matsumurae maple。
The Matsumurae maple (Acer amoenum var. matsumurae) belongs to Aceraceae (the Maple family). It is a tall deciduous tree that is native to Japan and distributed from Fukui prefecture northward along the Japan Sea side of Honshu. This tree grows in dales and mountainous areas and can reach about 15 m in height. The bark is smooth and dark brown tinged with green. Leaves are palmately compound with 5-9 leaflets and duplicato-serratus edges. The central leaflet is longer than others. Female and male flowers bloom together on terminal twigs in May. The fruits ripen in October. They are characterized by irregular and indented serration. (edit by Greg Brockelbank)
