"Yabu-ninjin" (Osmorhiza aristata) belongs to Apiaceae (the Carrot family). It is a perennial herb that is native to all over Japan, the Korean Peninsula, China, Amur, Ussuri and Siberia, etc. This herb grows on the shaded forest edges and bushes of the mountains and fields, and can reach a height of 30-70 cm. The leaves are twice ternate pinnate compound, with ovate leaflets and serrated coarse edges. The compound umbels are borne on the tips of the branches and small white flowers bloom sparsely from April to May. The fruit is rod-shaped, about 2 cm long, with a bulge at the top and a thin base. The ridge of mericarp has upward stinging hairs.
