"Yama-ruri-so" (Omphalodes japonica) belongs to Boraginaceae (the Borage family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Fukushima prefecture of Honshu south to Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan. This herb grows in bright forests and roadsides in the mountains, and can reach 10 to 20 cm in height. The whole plant is covered with white hairs, the basal leaves are lanceolate and the edges are slightly wavy. From April to May, the stems crawl in all directions from the rosette of the basal leaves, and the pale bluish-purple flowers bloom at the end. The buds and the flowers that are beginning to bloom are pale pink.
