わが国の本州、兵庫県以北から北海道に分布しています。亜高山帯から高山帯の高層湿原に生え、高さは２０〜４０センチになります。基部の葉鞘は赤褐色を帯びます。葉は幅２ミリほどの線形です。６月から８月ごろ、小穂をだして花を咲かせます。頂小穂は雄性で、雌性の側小穂は細い柄で下垂します。

カヤツリグサ科スゲ属の多年草で、学名は Carex limosa。英名はありません。

"Yachi-suge" (Carex limosa) belongs to Poaceae (the Grass family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Hyogo prefecture of Honshu north to Hokkaido in Japan. It grows in the subalpine to alpine high-rise marshes and can reach 20-40 cm in height. The basal leaf sheath is reddish brown. The leaves are linear with a width of about 2 mm. From June to August, the spikelets come out and bloom. The acrogyrous spikelets are male and the female pleurogerous spikelets hang down with a thin peduncle.
