The Tufted loosestrife (Lysimachia thyrsiflora) belongs to Primulaceae (the Primrose family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed northward from Chubu district of Honshu to Hokkaido in Japan, as well as the cold region of Northern Hemisphere. This herb grows in bogs or wed grasslands and can reach 30-80 cm in height. The leaves are lanceolate, opposite and 5-7 cm long. The racemes are borne on the axils, and the yellow flowers bloom from June to July. The Japanese name comes from the cylindrical inflorescence, which looks like a tiger's tail. In Chinese, it is called "球尾花" (qiu wei hua).
