"Yama-toubana" (Clinopodium multicaule) belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Chubu district of Honshu west to Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan. It grows in the shade of mountains and can reach 10 to 30 cm in height. The leaves are ovate to long-ovate and alternate, with coarse serrations on the edges. The petioles are 6 to 15 mm. From June to August, short spikes are borne on the shoot apex and white labiate flowers bloom. The upper lip has 2 splits, the lower lip has 3 splits, and the calyx has sparse hair.
