The Dove's foot cranesbill (Geranium molle) belongs to Geraniaceae (the Geranium family). It is an annual or a biennial herb that is native to Europe, West Asia, North Africa, and Macaronesia. Now it is naturalized all over the world, and it was first confirmed in Hokkaido in 1976, and naturalization has spread to many areas in Japan. It grows in meadows, grasslands, and wastelands, and 10 to 40 cm in height. The stem is erect or oblique and branched from the base. The lower leaves are round to kidney-shaped with 5 to 9 parted lobes, and the upper leaves have 3 to 5 divided lobes. Stems and sepals are covered with long wooly hairs. From April to September, peduncles emerge from the leaf axils and produce reddish purple flowers. The fruit is a beaked capsule.
