わが国の本州、東北地方南部から四国・九州、それに朝鮮半島南部に分布しています。山地に広く生え、高さは１５〜２５メートルになります。樹皮は紫褐色から暗褐色で、横に長い皮目が入ります。葉は長楕円形から卵形で互生し、縁には細かい鋸歯があります。若葉は紅紫色から緑色までさまざまです。３月から４月ごろ、葉の展開と同時に、白色や淡紅色、淡い紅紫色の花を咲かせます。果実は核果で、５月から６月に黒紫色に熟します。 |

バラ科サクラ属の落葉高木で、学名は Prunus jamasakura。英名は Yama-zakura。 |

"Yama-zakura" (Prunus jamasakura) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a tall deciduous tree that is distributed from southern Tohoku-district of Honshu to Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan, as well as the southern Korean Peninsula. This tree grows in mountains and can reach 15-25 m in height. The barks are purplish-brown to dark brown and have horizontal long lenticels. The leaves are oblong to ovate, alternate with fine toothed edges. The young leaves are varied, pale magenta to green. The white, pale pink, pale magenta flowers come in March o April almost as soon as foliation. The fruits are drupes and ripen bluckish purple in May to June. |
