メキシコの東南部が原産です。高さは１０メートルくらいになり、葉は剣状で青みがかった緑色をしています。鉢植えの場合は、そのサイズによって高さをコントロールすることができます。幹は基部が膨らみ、ゾウの肌に似ています。春に白い花を咲かせます。園芸上は、「せいねんのき（青年の木）」と呼ばれています。

リュウゼツラン科イトラン属の常緑低木で、学名は Yucca elephantipes。英名は Spineless yucca。

The Spineless yucca (Yucca elephantipes) belongs to Agavaceae (the Agave family). It is a small evergreen tree that is native to southeastern Mexico. The height is about 10 m, and the leaves are sword-shaped and bluish green. For potted plants, the height can be controlled by their size. The trunk has a bulging base and resembles the skin of an elephant. The white flowers come in spring. In horticulture, it is called "Seinenno-ki".
