チワワ砂漠が原産です。ニューメキシコ州からテキサス州、メキシコ北部に分布しています。通常は単幹で、高さは５メートルくらいなります。葉は剣状で堅く、縁は繊維状に剥離しています。夏から初夏にかけて、黄白色のベル形の花を咲かせます。花後には多肉質の果実がなります。

リュウゼツラン科イトラン属の常緑多年草で、学名は Yucca torreyi。英名は Torrey's yucca。

The Torrey's yucca (Yucca torreyi) belongs to Agavaceae (the Agave family). It is an evergreen herb that is native to Chihuahuan desert, New Mexico, Texas and northern Mexico. This agave is typically with a single trunk and can reach about 5 m in height. The leaves are stiff and sword-like with fibrous peeling edges. The creamy white, bell-shaped flowers appear in spring to early summer. They are followed by fleshy fruits.
