The "Yokiguni-kan-aoi" (Asarum ikegamii) belongs to Aristolochiaceae (the Birthwort family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed from Niigata Prefecture to western Fukushima Prefecture in Honshu, Japan. It grows on the floor of deciduous broad-leaved forests in low mountains or under thick stands of "Yuki-tsubaki" (Camellia japonica var. ecumbens), and grows 5 to 10 cm tall. It produces dark brown, dark purple or yellowish brown flowers from March to April. The flowers are petal-less, and the calyx lobes are petal-like. The calyx tube is short and tubular, and the calyx lobes are ovate-triangular. There are 6 pistils and 12 stamens.
