"Yukiwari-so" (Primula modesta) belongs to Primulaceae (the Primrose family). It is a perennial herb that is endemic species of Japan, and distributed to Chubu district, northern Kanto district of Honshu, Hokkaido and the parts of Shikoku-Kyushu district. This herb grows in montane to sub-alpine screes and grassland, and it can reach 10-15 cm in height. The leaves are obovate-elliptic, taper gradually to bases, and reflexed abaxial side. Their reverse faces are tinged yellow. The cymes are borne atop of flowering stalks and bloom magenta to pink flowers from May to July.
