The Tulip tree (Liriodendron tulipifera) belongs to Magnoliaceae (the Magnolia family). It is a tall deciduous tree that is distributed from southeastern Canada, southern Ontario to the central-south United States, Louisiana. This tree was introduced into Japan in the early Meiji Era (1868-1912). This tree grows in montane dales or slopes and can reach 24-37 m in height. The barks are dark gray and furrowed deep longitudially. The leaves are near square and divided shallowly into 4-6 lobes. The inconspicuous pale green and yellow flowers come in May to June. The leaves turn yellow in fall.
