わが国の固有種で各地に分布しています。山地の谷沿いや林床に生え、高さは２０〜３０センチになります。葉は腎円形または卵円形で根生し長い柄があります。３月から５月ごろ、いちど伏して立ち上がった花茎の先に、小さな白い花を咲かせます。名前は、枯死した葉柄の基部が「ゆり（百合）」の鱗茎に似ていることから。

アブラナ科ワサビ属の多年草で、学名は Wasabia tenuis。英名はありません。

"Yuri-wasabi" (Wasabia tenuis) belongs to Brassicaceae (the Mustard family). It is a perennial herb that is an endemic species of Japan. This herb grows in forests and along valleys of mountains, and it can reach 20-30 cm in height. The leaves are reniform-round or ovate-round, basal and long stalked. The small white flowers bloom in the cluster atop of stand-up flowering stalks from March to May. The Japanese common name is derived from the blighted basis of petioles which resemble the shape of a bulb of lily.
