The "Yushun-ran" (Cephalanthera subaphylla) belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed not only in various parts of Japan, but also in the southern part of the Korean Peninsula and Jeju Island. This herb grows in deciduous broad-leaved forests in the mountains and can reach 10 to 15 cm in height. The leaves are degenerated and small, with one or two alternating. It is believed that fungal heterotrophic evolution has evolved and photosynthetic function has degenerated. From April to June, 2 to 5 flowers come on the stem tips. The flowers are white, facing almost upwards and half-open. The Japanese name is named after Yushun Kudo (1887-1932), a botanist in Japan.
