ゆすらうめ (桜桃)

中国北部が原産です。わが国へは江戸時代の中頃に渡来しました。３月から４月ごろ、白色または淡紅色の５弁花を咲かせます。６月には果実が真っ赤に熟し、生食または果実酒にします。漢方では「山桜桃」と呼ばれ、消化促進や便秘、利尿に効果があるとされます。写真中５・中６は、園芸品種の「赤花ゆすらうめ」。 |

バラ科サクラ属の落葉低木で、学名は Prunus tomentosa。英名は Nanking cherry。 |

The Nanking cherry (Prunus tomentosa) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family), It is a small deciduous tree that is native to northern China. This tree was introducednto Japan in the mid days of Edo Era (about 270 years ago). It blooms five-petaled white to pale pink flowers in March to April. The fruits ripen bright red in June and used for raw diets or fruit wine. They are also used for Chinese herbal medicine. |
