The "Yuuga-giku" (Aster iinumae) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed northward from Kinki district of Honshu in Japan. This herb grows in fields or mountains and can reach 50-150 cm in height. It spreads by underground roots. The leaves are ovate-oblong to oblong and divided into lobes pinnately. They are bract-like near flower-heads. The white to pale bluish-purple flower-heads about 25 mm across bloom on the terminal branches from July to October. The origin of the Japanese name is unknown.
