ゆず (柚子)

中国の長江上流が原産です。わが国へは飛鳥時代から奈良時代に渡来しました。５月から６月ごろ、白色の花を咲かせます。果実は冬に黄色く熟しますが、果皮には香りの成分が含まれます。果皮は薬味として、また七味唐辛子や五香粉の材料として使われます。漢方では「陳皮（ちんぴ）」と呼ばれ、健胃や発汗、咳止めなどの効能があります。中国語では「香橙（xiang cheng）」と呼ばれます。 |

ミカン科ミカン属の常緑低木で、学名は Citrus junos。英名は Yuzu。 |

The Yuzu (Citrus junos) belongs to Rutaceae (the Citrus family). It is a small evergreen tree that is native to China, the upper reaches of Chang Jiang River. This tree was introduced into Japan in Asuka Era (592-710) to Nara Era (710-794). The white flowers bloom in May though June. The fruits ripen in yellow in winter. The peels have scented components and used for a condiment, and provide the raw material for "Shichimi togarashi" (seven flavor chili pepper) or Five-spice powder. "Chenpi" is sun-dried peel and used as a traditional medecine for stomachic, sudorific and cough medication. In Chinese, it is called "香橙" (xiang cheng). |
