ゆず (柚子)

中国の長江上流が原産です。わが国へは奈良から飛鳥時代に渡来しました。５月から６月ごろ、白色の花を咲かせます。果実は冬に黄色く熟しますが、果皮には香りの成分が含まれます。果皮は薬味として、また七味唐辛子や五香粉の材料として使われます。漢方では「陳皮（ちんぴ）」と呼ばれ、健胃や発汗、咳止めなどの効能があります。中国語では「香橙（xiang cheng）」と呼ばれます。 |

ミカン科ミカン属の常緑低木で、学名は Citrus junos。英名は Yuzu。 |

The Yuzu (Citrus junos) belongs to Rutaceae (the Citrus family). It is a small evergreen tree that is native to China, the upper reaches of Chang Jiang River. This tree was introduced into Japan in Nara Era to Asuka Era (about 1300 years ago). The white flowers bloom in May though June. The fruits ripen in yellow in winter. The peels have scented components and used for a condiment, and provide the raw material for "Shichimi togarashi" (seven flavor chili pepper) or Five-spice powder. "Chenpi" is sun-dried peel and used as a traditional medecine for stomachic, sudorific and cough medication. In Chinese, it is called "香橙" (xiang cheng). |
